MOVE WELL

Strong starts with listening.

Weighted walking should not change your gait or cause pain, numbness, dizziness, or unusual shortness of breath.

Last updated July 27, 2026

Start lighter than your ambition

Your first weighted walk should finish with energy in reserve. Choose a familiar route, a conservative load, and a duration that lets you notice how the vest affects your posture, breathing, and gait.

Fit before load

The vest should stay close enough not to bounce while allowing comfortable breathing and a natural arm swing. Stop and adjust the fit or load if your stride shortens, your posture changes, or the vest creates pressure or numbness.

Change one variable at a time

Add a little time, pace contrast, or carried load—not all three together. Vested never increases your carried weight automatically.

Comfort is data

Pay attention during the walk and afterward. A session that felt uncomfortable may call for repeating, recovering, or adjusting rather than progressing.

When to stop

Stop activity and seek appropriate help for pain, numbness, dizziness, chest pressure, faintness, unusual shortness of breath, or a change in gait.

When to speak with a clinician

Consult a qualified clinician before weighted exercise if you have an injury, joint concern, osteoporosis, a cardiovascular condition, pregnancy, or another relevant health concern.
